A good pour is only half the job — what happens in the days after the truck leaves determines how strong and crack-resistant your concrete ends up. Whether your contractor handles it or you’re babysitting a slab yourself, these are the rules that matter.
- Keep it moist — Concrete cures stronger when it stays damp. Light misting, wet burlap, plastic sheeting, or a curing compound all help slow evaporation and let hydration continue, especially in Utah’s dry air.
- Protect the surface from traffic — No foot traffic for ~24 hours, no vehicles for ~7 days, and no heavy loads until 28 days. Early loads can crack or permanently dent a slab that isn’t ready.
